Question

How does addiction develop? Order the correct statements: 1 2 3 4 ? [Choose] Drugs become necessary to stimulate a normal pleasure response. Drugs modify neurons so the response to normal everyday stimulants such as food or sex is enhanced as well. Drugs flood the reward system with 2-10 times more dopamine eliciting a stronger and more lasting pleasure response. Addicts start feeling down. Since dopamine levels are high at all times addicts feel pleasure constantly. Neurons reduce the amount of dopamine secreted in response to everyday stimuli and reduce the receptors to mute the string reward. [Choose]

One part of addiction that makes it so highly complicated is that while we can understand the risk factors and the science behind how people become addicted, the "why" can be much more difficult. Complex trauma, unhealthy coping mechanisms, a need to escape, social pressure, and, more simply, compounding the issue and unraveling how an individual's unique set of circumstances arrived at addiction can't be done with one universal approach. Learning to separate the addict from the human I loved was one of my most challenging things.
