When a mixture of A and B were subjected to paper chromatography, A moved up higher than B. However, neither one moved as high as the solvent. Based on this fact, discuss: a. Relative strength of interactions between A and paper vs. A and solvent. Why? A moved high but not as high as solvent, that means A interacts more with the paper than the solvent and thus solvent moved higher. b. Relative strength of interactions between A and paper vs. B and paper. Why? A interacts less with paper in comparison of interactions of B with paper. So B moves more slowly and thus remains down and A moves higher. c. Can you say anything about relative solubility of A vs. B in the solvent used (mobile phase)? Explain.
