QUESTION 4 [20] Describe the processes involved in catalysis of a substrate by an enzyme and state how competitive inhibition and allosteric inhibition affect this catalysis / Beskryf die prosesse wat by die katalise van 'n substraat deur 'n ensiem betrokke is en noem hoe kompetitiewe inhibisie en allosteriese inhibisie hierdie katalise beĂŻnvloed. QUESTION 5 [15] Stipulate differences between chlorophyll, bacteriochlorophyll, and accessory pigments of phototrophs / Noem die verskille tussen chlorofil, bakteriochlorofil, en hulppigmente van fototrowe.

Help with all questions. What is the fundamental mechanism by which enzymes enhance the rate of reactions? Is there a difference between the initial and the final energy levels in catalyzed and non-catalyzed reactions? What amount of enzyme is consumed in the reaction it catalyzes?
1. Name and describe two types of reactions that do not follow Michaelis-Menten kinetics. 2. Using the Cleland notation, name and describe the mechanism of catalysis used by chymotrypsin. Label all substrates and leaving groups clearly. 3. Explain why a catalyst must affect the rate of reaction in both the forward and reverse directions.
