I am wondering if anyone could help me further explain how histone modification affects gene expression, and what is the difference between histone modifications and DNA methylation? If possible, please discuss an interesting article/paper that you found interesting about gene expression related to histone modification/DNA methylation.

Step 1
Histones are proteins that help package DNA into a compact structure called chromatin. DNA methylation, on the other hand, is a chemical modification of DNA where a methyl group is added to a cytosine base, usually in a CpG dinucleotide context. Now, how do Show more…

The histone proteins that organize DNA and help regulate gene expression can be covalently modified in many different ways at many locations on each histone. Describe TWO of these covalent modifications of histones and in general, what those modifications usually do. Give sources used!
