Obesity is a commonly discussed topic with many different opinions when it comes to causes and influences. We know that environment, genetics, and diseases can all contribute to obesity, but there are many questions about what plays a larger role in being responsible for obesity within families. Studies have indicated that a child with no obese parents has only a 10% chance of becoming obese whereas a child with one obese parent has up to a 40% chance, and a child with both parents being obese soars all the way up to an 80% chance. Is this because of nature or nurture? Discuss some of the roles that genetics, environment, and diseases play in obesity and provide your opinion on the subject.
