I want to reply for this discussion no more than 50 words? Race has obviously had a very large impact on the development of jazz throughout the years some of which helped the music develop but a lot of these issues ultimately hindered the development of jazz. I think the unique environment that segregation and racism in the US was essential in the early formation of jazz but as the artform grew and matured the fact the artists of different races were often discouraged from interacting with each other only hindered the development of jazz. I think one of the most important issues is how many amazing black artists were often ignored or not recognized because of their race and many white artists who may not have been as creative or influential were propped up because of their race.
