How can you determine if a bacterium is being killed by an antibiotic or if its growth is simply being inhibited? a. If the organism is being killed it will have a larger zone of inhibition whereas if it is inhibited it will be a small zone of inhibition. b. If small colonies or a faint amount of growth is visible in the zone of inhibition it is inhibiting the organism whereas a complete absence of growth would indicate killing. c. If you continue to grow the plate past 24 hours and there is still no growth the antibiotic is killing the organism whereas if after extended incubation it is able to grow in the zone of inhibition then it is only inhibitory. d. If you subculture a sample from the zone of inhibition, thus removing it from the original plate, you would see growth if it was inhibitory or no growth if it was killing the organism. 2. Suppose that within the zone of inhibition for one drug, several small colonies were present. You test these colonies and find that they are not contaminants.
