In birds, for example, females are the heterogametic sex, with the two different sex chromosomes known as Z and W (so males are ZZ and females are ZW) a) Suppose that a gene determining whether a bird’s plumage is bright red versus dull brown is located on one of the sex chromosomes and that males are normally bright red and females normally dull brown. You encounter a single bright red female.
