In class, we discussed three different scenarios in different insect species that have been used to discover the mechanisms that control secretion of PTTH. Compare and contrast two of these scenarios and their respective control mechanisms and the biological context for those mechanisms (i.e., interpret the mechanisms in light of the species biology). Extra points will be given if you compare and contrast all three (note: I consider the events in Rhodnius and Oncopeltus to be similar enough that you should not use them as separate scenarios. Also note: there are two specific terms that I am looking for you to use here in the context of each different example).

Step 1
In Bombyx mori, PTTH secretion is controlled by the neurosecretory cells in the brain, which respond to environmental cues such as temperature and light. These cues trigger the release of PTTH, which then stimulates the prothoracic glands to produce ecdysteroids, Show more…

The jaws of vertebrates and the mandibles of insects have similar functions. Are they an example of analogous or homologous structures?
Biology Compare and contrast the three main types of exploitative species interactions (predation, parasitism, and herbivory), explaining how they differ.

The Biological Species Concept cannot be applied in all situations. Give an example of a situation or type of organism where the the Biological Species Concept would not apply. Explain why the Biological Species Concept cannot be applied in your example. (2 marks)
