Determine the sex of the child. Females have two X chromosomes. Males have an X and Y chromosome. Females can only pass on the X chromosome. Males can pass on the X or the Y chromosome. It is the sperm cell that determines the sex of the child. So only the "Dad" needs to flip a coin. If "heads" is flipped, Dad passes on the Y chromosome. If "tails" is flipped, Dad passes on the X chromosome.
