Assertion: Erythroblastosis feotalis not observed during first pregnancy although foetus is $\mathrm{Rh}$ positive and mother is Rh negative. Reason: Rh antigens of foetus do not get exposed to Rh negative blood of mother in first pregnancy as the two bloods are well separated by placenta.
Women who are Rh-negative but carry their first child that is Rh-positive will produce antibodies for the Rh factor when the blood mixes during delivery, which is referred to as Rh sensitization. This process generally does not harm the first child, but it will be harmful to any additional offspring that are also Rh-positive that the woman might have in the future.
