In what sense are cellular respiration and photosynthesis opposites? ? The reactants and products of photosynthesis ($CO_2 + H_2O + $ energy and glucose + $O_2) are the products and reactants of cellular respiration. ? In each process, the ETC and ATP synthase run in the opposite direction. ? One occurs only in plants; one occurs only in animals.

How are the reactions of photosynthesis and cellular respiration interconnected? The reactions are opposites of one another; each using the products of the other as reactants, Both reactions require ATP as the energy source, but photosynthesis only happens in plants. Every organism carries out both processes at the same time but in different parts of the organism: Animals rely on photosynthesis in plants; and plants rely on respiration as the source for their ATP

Photosynthesis: Light (energy) + CO2 + H2O -> C6H12O6 + O2 + H2O Respiration: C6H12O6 + O2 -> CO2 + H2O + ATP (Chemical energy) These two processes are essentially the same reaction run in different directions. The main difference being that in (cellular respiration / photosynthesis / fermentation) light energy is used to make (ATP / Glucose / NADPH) and in aerobic respiration the glucose is being used to produce chemical energy in the form of ATP. The waste product of photosynthesis is (CO2 / O2 / ATP) which is need for aerobic respiration. Conversely the waste product of aerobic respiration is carbon (dioxide / monoxide) which is need for photosynthesis.
