Inpatient admission: The patient sustained flash burns when his clothing caught fire. Someone had thrown gasoline onto the park cooking grill by which he was cooking. He suffered second-degree burns to the face, neck, and upper chest, with some first- and second-degree burns on the left forearm. All in all, 12 percent of the total body surface area was burned. The wounds were treated with antibiotics and pain medications. Physical therapists debrided the burned areas and provided hydrotherapy. The wounds continued to heal, and the patient was discharged.
