Lab 10: Appendicular Muscles
Muscles that move the hip originate on the vertebral column or os coxae and insert on the femur or superior tibia-fibula. Muscles that move the knee joint originate on the os coxae or femur and insert on the tibia or fibula. Muscles that move the ankle and toe of the foot. Muscles that move the talonavicular joint originate on the tibia or fibula and insert distal to the talonavicular joint.
Observe and identify the appendicular muscles and related structures on the torso models and in Visible Body (or Cadaver where visible). More muscles may be assigned by the instructor: iliacus, psoas major, tensor fasciae latae, iliotibial tract, sartorius, pectineus, adductor longus, gracilis, vastus lateralis, rectus femoris, vastus intermedius, vastus medialis, adductor magnus, gluteus maximus, gluteus medius, biceps femoris short head, biceps femoris long head, semitendinosus, semimembranosus, tibialis anterior, extensor digitorum longus, fibularis longus, fibularis brevis, gastrocnemius, soleus.
