Global warming appears to be responsible for increased melting of the ice in Earth's polar regions. a. There are several theones to explain the beginning of an ice age. Consider the following one: If the temperature of the Earth increases, evaporation of the oceans increases, precipitation increases, and snowfall increases. This results in more snow left in cooler places at the end of each summer, with successively increasing depths each winter that become hord packed from the bottom up to become ice. All the while, the ice reflects more solar radiation that would otherwise be absorbed. This, in turn, cools the Earth further and allows for more freczing. Can you continue this sequence and see how the process reverses itself and how the ice age withdraws?
