Mendel’s law of independent assortment is supported by the chromosomal theory of inheritance. Which of the following properly summarizes how chromosomes behave to account for independent assortment? In meiosis, homologous pairs are separated and packaged into different gametes. During mitosis, sister chromatids are pulled to opposite ends of the cell. During meiosis, the arrangement of one member of a homologous pair does not impact arrangement of other chromosomal pairs. Recombination rearranges chromosomes so a new arrangement of parental genetic information is created.
