Mossy Toads are under strong selective pressure to not get eaten by predators, and their color can range from bright green all the way to dark brown (all bright yellowish green, darker green, greenish brown, all brown). Some populations live near ponds, where most individuals are bright yellowish green, which helps them blend in with the algae. Other populations live in the forest and are more likely to be all brown, which helps them blend in with dead leaves on the forest floor. While the other color morphs in between can be produced in the lab, they are rarely found in nature. This is an example of:
disruptive selection
stabilizing selection
coevolutionary selection
directional selection
