Complete the following statements about the role of Rh factor in hemolytic disease of newborns. Blood type depends upon antigens as well as whether a person has or does not have the Rh factor on the antigens of white blood cells. If a fetus is Rh+ and its mother is Rh-, the placenta can leak across the antibodies. During subsequent pregnancies with an Rh+ child, the anti-Rh antibodies could cross the placenta and destroy the unborn child's red blood cells.
