True/False - If the statement is false, change the identified word or phrase to make the sentence or statement true. 11 After his voyage on the HMS Beagle, Darwin wondered whether similar species form the Galapagos Islands could once have been members of the same species. 12. Darwin came to realize that organisms of the same species are identical to on another. 13. The term “fitness” refers to an organism’s ability to survive and reproduce in a specific environment, contributing genes to the next generation’s gene pool. 14. In 1858, Alfred Wallace sent Charles Darwin a letter proposing a mechanism for evolution that was very similar to Darwin’s. 15. The fact that species today look different from their ancestors can be described as descent with modification.

Natural selection is a scientific theory that explains the process of evolution. It states that organisms with favorable traits are more likely to survive, reproduce, and pass those traits on to their offspring.
Charles Darwin proposed the idea that those individuals best suited to their environment will survive and reproduce, and their traits will become more common in a population. He called this idea "natural selection" and explained it as the mechanism for how populations evolve, or change, over time. This idea is widely accepted and has been tested through many experiments that support the idea, but cannot yet be considered proven or a fact. Darwin's idea is most likely called the theory of evolution by natural selection.
