So here we are going to talk about polyspermy.
00:04
So what is polyspermy? so polyspermy is the fertilization process and it is a process when the fertilization of egg occurs by multiple sperms.
00:17
When multiple sperms basically fertilize the egg at the same time, then that term or we can say that particular process known as polyspermy.
00:26
So if multiple sperms basically fertilize an egg, then we can, we can say that particular process is known as polyspermy.
00:30
We can say that the embryo which is being produced has basically it will inherit multiple parental centriol and because of that there will be competition for the extra chromosome and this can result in the creation of a cleavage furrow so as a cleavage furrow is being basically formed this basically causes the zygot to die and it is very important to prevent polyspermy because it can have many results or many harmful results.
01:07
Although we can say that that many sperms are attached to the coat of the egg but it is important that that only a single sperm fuses with the egg and this particular process very important because as these sperm fuses with the egg what happens that the plasma membrane of the egg the plasma membrane of egg it basically as it fuses with the plasma embryo followed by the fusion with the nucleus of the egg and there are different methods which can be used to prevent polyspermy so first method is known as the fast block method and fast block method is a method which occurs when the receptors which are present in these sperm or we can say the sperm receptors when they basically come in contact with the egg jelly -like layer, jelly layer, and because of them, as it contacts, the acrosomal reactions occur because the acrosom will release the several enzymes and because of that, that will break down the jelly layer which is present and later on the sperm will come in contact of the vitiline layer and the plasma membrane of the egg.
02:37
So this is the basic process of fertilization which occurs and after that when the two plasma amends come in contact with each other signals in the egg are basically being initiated as signals in the egg are being initiated the first signal is that so the first signal is that that the sodium channels which are present in the egg so the sodium channels will basically open and as they open they basically allow this sodium iron to flood into the egg and this basically causes the depolarization of the egg.
03:16
The depolarization of the egg because after that the resting potential of the egg becomes minus 70molvold while the depolarization is occurring the rest of the woodline layer has been dissolving and as the jelly layer is basically under the process of dissolution it's been dissolving, then the depolarization of the plasma membrane occurs and because of the depolarization, this results in the first block which basically prevents the entry of any more sperms.
03:52
The second method is the slow block...
