Objective
The objective of this experiment is to determine current in different branches of a series-parallel circuit and the potential drops across various resistors in the circuit to reinforce the theory.
Equipment
- Voltage Source (9V battery)
- Voltmeter
- Three ammeters
- Four resistors of different resistances
- Switch
- Conductors of negligible resistance

Procedure
Part 1: For the circuit shown in figure 1.0 above,
E = 9.0V; R1 = 5̦; R2 = 3̦; R3 = 7̦; R4 = 15̦
Using the method of finding the equivalent resistance for a series-parallel circuit:
a. Determine the magnitude of currents I1, I2 and I3 respectively. (3 points)
b. Find the potential drop across each resistor. (3 points)
Show all work.
