On MSA (or mannitol salt agar) plates 1. only salt sensitive bacteria grow and those that ferment mannitol will turn the media yellow. 2. only salt sensitive bacteria grow and those that ferment mannitol will turn the media red. 3. only salt tolerant bacteria grow and those that ferment mannitol will turn the media red

Mannitol salt agar is a culture medium that contains high salt (NaCl) concentration, mannitol (a fermentable sugar), and a pH indicator that is yellow at acidic conditions and red at alkaline or neutral conditions. (Acids are released when microbes ferment mannitol.) The medium also contains other carbohydrates that allow growth of non-fermenting halophilic organisms. Non-halophilic organisms will not grow on this mannitol salt agar. When uninoculated, the medium is red. Question: If you inoculate a non-halophilic mannitol fermenter, what color will the medium be after incubation? red yellow clear

Mannitol Salt Agar What are the expected results (growth and color) on Mannitol Salt Agar. Will the bacterium grow on this media? If it can grow, what is the color of colonies Explain why the bacterium will give these results. Eosin Methylene Blue Agar What are the expected results (growth and color) on Eosin Methylene Blue. Will the bacterium grow? If it can grow, what is the color of colonies? Explain why the bacterium will give these results.
