Below are several sentences to describe one of the four stages of the origins of life. Choose those that describe the iron-sulfur world hypothesis and place them in the correct order in the boxes provided. Some choices will not be used. Organic polymers evolve into RNA that acts as a catalyst to direct the formation of other organic monomers. Dissolved gases such as NH3, CO, and H2 rise from thermal vents and pass over Fe and Ni forming metallic sulfides. These metallic sulfides act as catalysts and drive the production of organic molecules. Amino acids present in shallow sea-side pools are heated by the sun. The amino acids change conformation to form proteinoids that function as enzymatic catalysts. Peptides and other organic polymers become enclosed within a membrane to form a protocell. Probionts gain the ability to self-replicate. Organic molecules react with metallic sulfides at thermal vents to produce peptides.
Put the currently accepted stages of the Origin of Life in their correct order. Nucleotides and amino acids produced Polymerization of monomers forms RNA and/or DNA and proteins Properties enabling cells are acquired Polymers are enclosed by membranes
