6. In order to figure out if taking a literature class improves empathy, 225 students are given an empathy test after they complete an Intro to Literature course. The empathy score for the sample is 56. The population mean for the empathy test is 50 with a standard deviation of 10. Did the literature students score higher than the rest of the population? Conduct all four steps of hypothesis testing, and use an alpha level of 0.05.
7. No matter the conclusion for #6, calculate the Cohen's d effect size for the result. Is the result small, medium, or large? (No points for the small, medium, or large designation unless there is a numeric value as well.)
8. Using the information in problem #6, calculate a 99% confidence interval. Note that the critical value might be different if your alpha level or one/two-tailed designation is different.
a) Is there a difference between the population and sample when you compare your population mean to the confidence interval? (No points if you do not have an interval to base your answer on.)
