Portelli Services provides room-cleaning arrangements for hotels in Pennsylvania. On April 1, Silvia Hotels & Resorts signed an agreement to outsource its room-cleaning functions to Portelli. The contract specifies the service fee to be $15,000 per month, and all payments are to be made shortly after the end of each quarter. It also specifies that Portelli will receive an additional quarterly bonus of $3,000 if, during that quarter, Silvia receives no more than five complaints from customers about room cleanliness. On April 1, based on historical experience, Portelli estimated that there is a 75% chance that it will earn the quarterly bonus. On May 5, Portelli learned that, during March, there were two complaints from customers related to room cleanliness. Based on this new information, Portelli revised its estimate downward to 40% that it would earn the quarterly bonus. On June 30, Silvia notified Portelli that, for the quarter ended, there were four complaints associated with room cleanliness, so Portelli would receive the bonus. Two days later, Portelli received all payments due for all services rendered in the second quarter, including the bonus. Portelli bases estimates of variable consideration on the most likely amount it expects to receive. 1 Prepare Portelli's April 30 journal entry to account for the revenue earned in April. 2 Prepare Portelli's May 31 journal entry to record the revenue earned in May, as well as any appropriate adjustments to the revenue earned in April. 3 Prepare Portelli's June 30 and July 2 journal entries to record additional service revenue earned, as well as any necessary adjustments to revenue and receipt of payment from Silvia.

The Days Inn hotel has 30 rooms with standard queen-size beds and two rates: a full price of $219 and a discount price of $129. To receive the discount price, a customer must purchase the room at least one week in advance (this helps to distinguish between leisure travelers, who tend to book early, and business travelers, who value the flexibility of booking late). For a particular Monday night, the hotel estimates that the demand from leisure travelers could fill the whole hotel while the demand from business travelers is distributed according to Poisson distribution with mean 8.5 (see table below). Given the optimal protection level for full-price rooms computed in (a), the manager computes that the expected number of business travelers that will be denied is 3. Answer the following questions. (b) Given the optimal protection level for full-price rooms computed in (a), what is the expected total revenue from the full price rooms on the particular Monday night? (c) Given the optimal protection level for full-price rooms computed in (a), what is the expected total revenue of the hotel on the particular Monday night? (d) Given the optimal protection level for full-price rooms computed in (a), what is the expected number of occupied rooms (occupancy rate) on the particular Monday night? (e) Suppose the Inn can observe all business demands one day in advance (say, the Inn can observe next Monday night demand of business travelers on this Sunday). With this capability, the Days Inn can sell all its empty rooms (which were protected for business travelers but left unoccupied) through "priceline.com" at a discount price of $109. In this new situation, what is the optimal protection level for full-price rooms for the Monday night? (f) Why has the protection level in (e) changed compared to your answer in (a)?

The trial balance of ASEM MPE NIPA Ltd. for the year ended 31st December 2015 failed to agree, and the difference of GH¢81,000 was debited to the suspense account. Accounts were prepared based on the trial balance and showed a net profit of GH¢2,000,000. The following errors were subsequently discovered: a. The sales daybook had been overcast by GH¢9,000. b. The discount allowed of GH¢61,200 correctly entered in the sales ledger had been posted to the wrong side of the discount allowed account in the nominal ledger. c. Cheques received from Ibrahim, a customer, amounting to GH¢18,200 were entered correctly in the cash book but have been credited to the personal account as GH¢12,800. d. A credit purchase of GH¢27,000 from Ruth has not been entered on her personal account in the bought ledger. e. A credit note of GH¢12,600 for goods returned by Korkor, a customer, had been entered twice in the return inward book and credited twice to the personal account of the customer. f. A payment of GH¢39,000 on 30th Dec for repairs of a motor vehicle had been debited to the motor vehicle account. g. Part of the company's premises had been let as of 1st December at a monthly rent of GH¢6,000 on 1st Dec. The tenant paid three months' rent in advance. This amount had been entered in the cash book, but no other entry had been made in any other account. You are required to: a. Write up journal entries to correct the above errors. b. Show the suspense account. c. Calculate the amount of the net profit after correcting the above.
