Discuss and provide evidence for the usefulness of each of the following theoretical frameworks for our application of developmental psychology knowledge to education: Piaget, Information Processing, Sociocultural. In your answer identify one research study for each theoretical approach and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each approach as it applies to education. One of the difficulties of conducting infancy research aimed at uncovering the biological and environmental foundations of human behavior and mental abilities is that infants cannot communicate about their abilities (i.e., they don't have language yet) and so researchers have to design procedures that can help them to infer what a nonverbal infant's mental capacities are. It is also important to develop methods that are within the perceptual and motor capacity of infants at different ages. So, if you want to ask what a 3-month-old is capable of you will have to realize that the 3-month-olds' perceptual and motor abilities are very different from those of a 9-month-old, for example. Thus, you will need to design a task to measure the psychological ability according to what the infant can do (behaviorally) at whatever particular age you are interested in. For this question, discuss the impressive methodologies that developmental scientists have developed to address the issues of measuring the perceptual and cognitive capacity of preverbal infants. In your discussion, use examples of 3 different methodologies from 3 studies of infant cognitive and/or perceptual abilities. First, clearly explain the research questions these studies were designed to answer, the methods the experimenters used, and the insights the studies have provided about infants' perceptual and cognitive capabilities. As a conclusion to your essay, discuss how the findings from these 3 studies have informed scientific knowledge about the origins of the human mind and behavior.

Imagine you work for by a large software company and your job is to develop an app that stimulates cognitive development for either infants or young children. Identify the age group the app is designed for, describe its features, and explain what aspects of cognition it will affect. Identify and explain one theory of cognitive development which influenced the development of your app. Be sure to give examples and include factual points from the readings to demonstrate your thoughts.
