Problem 1
Mixing of two different dry powders can be realized by the aid of rotating-blade blending, bubbling air
aeration and gravitational settling of mixed powders, as illustrated in the Figure below. In order to
ensure a continuous through operation (not looped operation) of uniform mixing, various operation
controls are required, including flowrate, blending rotation speed, feed rates of dry powders and
humidity control. The mechanical energy assumption is mainly due to the loss of flow work and
blending power, as expressed by
$$E = \dot{Q}\Delta P + T\omega$$

Mixture A&B
(a) Design an experimental system for this powder mixing process, with a complete schematic diagram
of the system.
(b) Provide a complete list of measurands and relevant measurement devices
(c) How to improve the system operation with the elimination of electrostatic charges (generated from
the inter-powders and powder-wall collisions) and with the fine powders recovery (aerated with exiting
air)? Modify the system design accordingly.
