Problem 5: Modeling Mechanical System
Figure 1 shows the simplified diagram of the printwheel control system of a word processor. The printwheel is controlled by a DC motor through belts and pulleys. It is assumed that the belts are rigid. The following parameters and variables are defined: Tm(t) is the motor torque, θ(t) is the motor angle, u(t) is the linear displacement of the printwheel, Jm is the motor inertia, Bm is the motor viscous-friction coefficient, r is the pulley radius, and M is the mass of the printwheel.
(a) Write the differential equation of the system.
(b) Find the transfer function, where T(s) and Y(s) are the Laplace transform of Tm(t) and u(t).
