Question

Purpose: This assignment asks you to watch a video on the nature/nurture debate, develop and understanding of terms and ideas presented, and to then think critically about the information presented. (see "Bloom's Taxonomy" page below this assignment). Goal: Analyze and critique major theories and ideas in psychology. After watching the video "Blank Slate" and doing some quick research of your own on the nature/nurture debate (you can Google this term), do the following (At the bottom of the video you will find an option to translate the transcript into many different languages): 1. (25 Points) Within 250-300 words, summarize the main points from the video - "The Blank Slate". (Links to an external site.) Then discuss the following: What is the nature/nurture debate? (This will come from the video and what you find after doing a quick search on nature/nurture debate) Why are both important in studying psychology? Give examples. How can we use this information in analyzing human behavior and thought? Can this be helpful in the real world? Why or why not? Give examples. I am not looking for a specific "answer" to these questions. I am looking to see that you are using critical thinking in relation to the information presented in the video. (Remember, your summary will be 250-300 words, but your entire post will definitely be more than 300 words.)

the-biggest-debate-in-psychology-seemingly-is-the-one-about-the-origin-of-what-makes-us-who-we-are-this-debate-is-simply-referred-to-as-the-nature-vs-nurture-debate-the-side-of-nature-is-wha-00955

The biggest debate in psychology, seemingly, is the one about the origin of what makes us who we are. This debate is simply referred to as the 'Nature vs. Nurture' debate. The side of nature is what we are studying in this course, the biological influences and genetics that we come into this world with (what mom and dad gave us). The nurture side of things is simply the experiences we have in life, the friends and family, and how we were raised. It's obvious that it is a combination of these 2 elements, but what do you think that split might be and why?For example, as a "neuro nerd", I believe the split is 80% biology/genes, and 20% environment. Not everybody feels that way, nor should they. What I would like you to do this week is to make an initial post stating what percent you think is biological and what percent is environment (50/50 maybe?) and why you think it is that way
