(a) Two samples, sizes 40 and 50 respectively, are taken from a population with unknown mean μ and unknown variance σ^2. The data is shown below. Sample I: x 35 36 37 38 39 Sample II: x 35 36 37 38 39 40 Sample I: f 3 7 15 10 5 Sample II: f 10 21 8 6 3 2 Using the data from the two samples above, obtain unbiased estimates of: i. The population mean μ (4 Marks) ii. The population variance σ^2 (5 Marks) (b) Assume that in a certain district the mean systolic blood pressure of persons aged 20 to 40 is 130 mm Hg with a standard deviation of 10 mm Hg. A random sample of 64 persons aged 20 to 40 from village X of the same district has a mean systolic blood pressure of 132 mm Hg. Does the mean systolic blood pressure of the dwellers of the village (aged 20 to 40) differ from that of the inhabitants of the district (aged 20 to 40) in general, at the 5% level of significance? (5 Marks) (c) An epidemiologist is worried about the ever-increasing trend of malaria in a certain locality and wants to estimate the proportion of people infected in the peak malaria transmission period. If he takes a random sample of 150 people in that locality during the peak transmission period and finds that 60 of them are positive for malaria, find: i. 99% confidence interval for the proportion of the whole infected people in that locality during the peak malaria transmission period. (4 Marks) ii. Based on your results in part (i), do you think the epidemiologist's worry is justified? Explain.

Question:- Identify the relevant population for the following research. You are required to suggest the appropriate sampling design to investigate the issues that identify the population frame as well. a-A company wants to investigate the initial reactions of heavy soft-drink users to a new “natural” soft-drink. b-A marketer wants to generate some ideas on how women differ from men in acquiring product knowledge about clothes. Explain your Answers and give an Example.
