The procedure involves isolating the spermatic cord and vas deferens, cutting and ligating the vas deferens and then replacing them in the spermatic cord and scrotal sac. The nurse explains to Steven that after this procedure his risk of prostate cancer will be increased because of irregular testosterone production. he will continue to produce sperm and the procedure is irreversible. his reproductive organs will no longer respond to FSH and sperm production will cease. he will have to take testosterone supplementation for the rest of his life. he will no longer produce sperm and will be considered sterile.
