Case 1: Jane is a 27-year-old Caucasian female. She is a current smoker and has a history of depression. Jane first noticed symptoms of vision loss in one eye accompanied by facial weakness, numbness, and difficulty with speech in April 2018. After the symptoms did not subside, she visited her GP who then suggested further testing by a clinical neurologist. Jane underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and a lesion was revealed on the brainstem. These results led to her being classified as having Clinically Isolated Syndrome. Three months after the initial MRI, Jane started experiencing extreme fatigue and balance problems, together with lower extremity weakness. Jane underwent a second MRI, which revealed another lesion in her right cerebral hemisphere. It has been over two years since the patient's diagnosis, and she has opted to come to physiotherapy to help control her fatigue, lower limb weakness, coordination, and maintain general fitness. Jane wants to know what has been going on with her body these last few years. She is also eager to know her prognosis over the next 20-30 years, what treatments there are out there, and what options there are for her to take part in a current clinical trial.

Dr. June Jolly is interested in exploring whether or not a new drug will reduce the symptoms of depression.
