Each design team is to:
- Identify a Design Topic: Improvement on any existing equipment or new equipment that benefits mankind (e.g. cell phone, washing machine).
- Define the Problem: Identify a problem, identify the need for the project, target population, validate and justify the problem.
- Design Objectives: Create design requirements (criteria and constraints), Objective Tree.
- Do Background Research: Literature (background history of the equipment and previous improvements).
- Generate Ideas: Brainstorm possible solutions, suggested improvements, analyze the merit of the developed concepts.
- Select a Solution: Use a decision matrix to select the best solution.
- Develop a Solution: Sketches/drawings of the prototypes, advantages and possible disadvantages of suggested improvements, benefits that outweigh the possible disadvantages.
