While exceptions exist in human populations, according to Bergmann's and Allen's rules, a population living in an extremely cold environment will have __________________. short limbs and a slim body long limbs and a large body long limbs and a slim body short limbs and a large body

Which answer below explains Bergmann's Rule? A mammal with a smaller surface area relative to body mass is better suited for cold environments An organism with a larger body mass produces more heat and therefore is more conducive for colder environments An organism with longer extremities are more likely to live in hotter environments than cold environments When an organism has a larger surface area relative body mass they are better suited for colder environments

The body forms of Homo erectus from tropical Africa and Neanderthals from Eurasia show variation attributable to climate. H. erectus had long, linear bodies with elongated limbs while Neanderthals had stocky bodies with relatively short limbs. What property seems to be governing body form in these hominins? The longer limbs of H. erectus made it a more effective hunter than Neanderthals. H. erectus needed to be tall in order to see carnivores over tall grass The long, linear form of H. erectus allowed them to radiate heat effectively, while the short, squat form of Neanderthals helped them retain heat. The long linear form maximized exposure to the sun while the short squat form minimized it.
