QUESTION 78 Which of the following is NOT an effect of the parasympathetic nervous system? constriction of the pupil decreased heart rate increased sweat secretion bronchoconstriction
Adi S.
The sympathetic nervous system and the parasympathetic nervous system inhibit digestive and sexual responses. They increase heart rate and blood pressure, preparing the body for action and restoring the body's resources. They also decrease heart rate and blood pressure, constrict bronchioles and pupils. They prepare the body for fight or flight.
Why is it advisable to relax, read a book or newspaper, or watch television after a meal? Respond in terms of the effects of the autonomic nervous system on digestion.
