So there are a number of effective interventions in treating ptsd.
00:06
I'm actually gonna talk about 10, so let's dive into it.
00:09
So first we have zbt, which stands for cognitive behavioral therapy.
00:14
So there's kind of two types of this.
00:16
You have prolonged exposure therapy, and that involves helping the individual confront and slowly over time process those traumatic memories and reduce that avoidance behavior.
00:27
And there's also cognitive processing therapy, which really focuses on identifying those negative thoughts and challenging those negative thought patterns related to the trauma, and which can really promote cognitive restructuring.
00:41
Next we have eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, which just stands for emdr.
00:47
So this really involves reprocessing a traumatic memory, while at the same time engaging in bilateral stimulation.
00:55
And this can be something as simple as side to side eye movements.
00:59
So emdr really aims to reduce that emotional charge that is associated in the person with those traumatic experiences.
01:07
Next you have medication.
01:09
So your ssris, which are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, that's a fancy way to say antidepressants.
01:17
They can sometimes be prescribed to help kind of manage and make those symptoms more livable in individuals with ptsd, those symptoms like anxiety and depression.
01:30
So another intervention can be group therapy.
01:32
So this is often in the form of like a support group.
01:35
And this really helps people with ptsd share their experiences and even share some coping strategies that they have.
01:42
And also helps them to build a sense of community and understanding with other people that are going through similar situations that they're going through...
