Replica plating is a technique that allows the same bacterial colonies to be plated onto different media. A sterile velvet pad is pressed onto a “master” plate to pick up bacteria from each colony. The pad is then pressed onto new plates to reproduce the same colonies on other media. For help understanding which genotypes grow on each medium type, use the Hint. Use these data to deduce the number of exconjugants with each genotype.

- Replica plating lets us identify the same bacterial colonies across different media - Each medium can select for or against specific genotypes - By comparing growth patterns across plates, we can determine genotypes Show more…

Refer to the image of the bacterial plates below. A few bacterial strains were spotted on a master plate that contained minimal media and the amino acids tryptophan, lysine, and arginine. The strains were then replica plated onto plates with minimal media and various combinations of amino acids. Use these images to determine the genotypes of the bacterial strains. Master Plate Lys, Trp Arg, Trp Arg, Lys What is the genotype of bacterial strain B? Select one: Lys+, Arg+, Trp+ Lys+, Arg+, Trp- Lys-, Arg+, Trp+ Lys-, Arg-, Trp-
