Sea turtles are reptiles. Sea turtles have long flippers (unlike turtles that live in freshwater, which have webbed feet) that act like paddles to propel them through the water. These flippers help make sea turtles more hydrodynamic (they move through water better). Sea lions are mammals. Sea lions also have long flippers to help propel them through the water. Are the long flippers of sea turtles and sea lions homologous structures or analogous structures? Are the long flippers of sea turtles and sea lions an example of convergent evolution?
