9. Mirror invention: You stand at corner A of a 2 meter square ABCD drawn on the floor, facing corner B. A flat mirror at corner D reflects an image of you from D to a 2nd flat mirror at B, which in turn provides you with a clear view of your right profile (i.e. the right-side view of your head). 9a. What angle does the surface normal of the 1st mirror make with the line from D to A? (Hint: Shown angles are NOT aligned correctly.) 9b. What will you see if you turn to face the mirror at D, and why?

Developing Proof What you see in a mirror is actually light from an object bouncing off the mirror and traveling to your eye. The object's image seen in the mirror appears as if it were reflected behind the mirror, as far behind the mirror as the object is in front of the mirror. In the diagram at right, assume that the mirror is perpendicular to the ground. Use the fact that the light's incoming angle, $\angle 1$, is congruent to its outgoing angle, $\angle 2,$ to explain why $B C=C E$. FIGURE CAN'T COPY.

16 Light strikes a mirror as shown in Figure 32.18. This mirror has another mirror placed at right angles to it. Such an arrangement of mirrors is known as a corner reflector. At what angle does the light get reflected back (i.e. what angle is the outgoing light at when it crosses the dotted line)? Mirror Surfaces Incoming light Figure 32.18 Two mirrors are placed a right angles to one and other. This arrangement of mirrors reflects light in a particular fashion, making them useful for a range of purposes.
Adi S.
The two mirrors illustrated in the figure below meet at a right angle. The beam of light in the vertical plane indicated by the dashed lines strikes mirror 1 as shown. (Let d = 1.05 m and θ = 44.0°.) Two mirrors labeled Mirror 1 and Mirror 2 are placed at right angles to each other, such that Mirror 1 is placed horizontally and Mirror 2 is placed perpendicular to Mirror 1 on its left side. An incident ray is shown to meet Mirror 1 at a distance of d from the junction between the two mirrors. The incident ray makes an angle of θ with the normal, a dashed line drawn perpendicular to the horizontal mirror at the point of incidence. A dashed square is drawn around the normal with the horizontal on Mirror 1 and the vertical side on Mirror 2. (a) Determine the distance the reflected light beam travels before striking mirror 2. m (b) In what direction does the light beam travel after being reflected from mirror 2? ° above the horizontal
