Seed Plants (Gymnosperms and Angiosperms) Members of the Phylum Coniferophyta (conifers or cone-bearing gymnosperms) and the Phylum Anthophyta (angiosperms or flowering plants) are seed-bearing vascular plants. They protect an embryo with lesser or greater amounts of female tissue, thus helping ensure a higher rate of survival. These two phyla represent the most successful plants in our contemporary world. Coniferophyta (the conifers or cone-bearing gymnosperms). These organisms bear ""naked"" seeds. All conifers have separate male and female cones.
