Commercially available antiserum samples containing antibodies for antigens A, B, and D are used to determine the type of a particular patient's blood. The antiserum is mixed with the sample of blood, and if agglutination (clumping) occurs, that means that the antigen with the same name as the antiserum is present on those RBCs.
