If you transfer bacterial growth from a broth to an agar plate but nothing grows after incubation, what may have occurred? Multiple Choice The lid may have been left off the Petri dish for too long during the transfer. The mouth of the broth tube may not have been passed through the Bunsen burner flame. Contaminants may have been introduced into the broth culture. The loop may have been too hot when making the transfer.

You inoculated a sample of a mystery microbe into a phenol red broth tube. However, during the next lab session, you find that the tube has not changed color to yellow or pink (from the original red), and that there was no gas observed in the Durham tube. It is stipulated that the inoculation was done correctly, and that both the original culture and the phenol red broth tubes have live organisms—samples from both cultures were able to grow when inoculated onto a BHI agar plate (a form of complex media). What kind of microbe might this organism be? Support and defend your response.

If you got the above result after performing an endospore stain, what would you conclude? There are no endospores present. The bacteria are Micrococcus luteus (italicized). The bacteria were running out of nutrients. The endospores were beautifully stained!
