Suppose the cell is metabolizing glucose under aerobic conditions, but there is a small problem in the cell and the enzyme in reaction 8 of Krebs' cycle is blocked. Answer the following questions about this problem that has occurred in the cell. Would reaction 8 still occur? Yes or No. No; because it's blocked. Would the Krebs' cycle still be able to operate? Yes or No. Explain: No; it would not be able to operate without reaction 8. Would this affect the production of NADH? Yes or No. Explain. Yes; because the enzyme would not use NAD+, so NADH would not be produced. Would this affect the production of FADH2? Yes or No. Explain. No, the production of FADH2 occurs before reaction 8. Would this affect the electron transport chain? Yes or No. Explain. Yes. How would this affect the total production of ATP under aerobic conditions in the cell? How much ATP will be produced from this glucose molecule? How much ATP will be yielded from this molecule? Explain.

Text: Answer the following biology questions: a) Explain the electron transport chain in detail using a paragraph. b) From your understanding of cellular respiration, what type of activity would cause a person to have high levels of lactic acid in their body? (Answer with a suggested activity and the process that would cause this) c) In glycolysis, if the enzyme triosephosphate isomerase is not able to do its job properly, what would happen? To be specific, how would ATP production be affected? (Your answer should be more than "there would be a problem in glycolysis causing it to stop")

Which of the following best describes how the citric acid cycle relates to glycolysis, oxidative phosphorylation, and chemiosmosis? a. Glycolysis produces pyruvate, which is converted to acetyl-CoA and enters the citric acid cycle. This cycle produces NADH and FADH $_{2},$ which donate electrons to the electron transport chain to pump protons and produce ATP through chemiosmosis. Production of ATP using an electron transport chain and chemiosmosis is called oxidative phosphorylation. b. The citric acid produces pyruvate, which converts to glucose to enter glycolysis. This pathway produces NADH and FADH $_{2},$ which enter oxidative phosphorylation to produce ATP through chemiosmosis. c. Citric acid produces $\mathrm{NADH}$ and $\mathrm{FADH}_{2}$ which undergo oxidative phosphorylation. This produces ATP by pumping protons through chemiosmosis. The ATP produced is utilized in large amount in the process of glycolysis. d. Glycolysis produces pyruvate, which directly enters the citric acid cycle. This cycle produces the energy currency that undergoes the electron transport chain to produce water and ATP.
