Texts: Piping Network and the Pump Combined?
A liquid is to be transferred through a 40-meter long, 12cm diameter pipe from a reservoir. The liquid height in the reservoir is 20 meters, and the liquid height in the column is 10 meters above the liquid height in the reservoir (illustrated in Figure 3).
A pump is provided to achieve this, which operates with the following characteristic curve:
Q (m3/s) 0.0 0.05 0.08 0.10 0.13 0.16
H (m) 85 79 68 52 35 12
n (%) 0 42 52 60 58 52
Assume that the friction factor is equal to 0.006 and secondary losses lead to an equivalent length of 15 meters.
i) Determine the flow rate of fluid that will be achieved using the provided pump.
ii) Estimate the electrical energy required by the pump.
