Thomas Nagel, in his article "Death," discusses a hypothesis that explains why death is bad. It is bad to die not because death is bad in itself, rather it is bad because life is good and death deprives us of what is good about life. Nagel observes that there are three types of problems this hypothesis must overcome. From the choices below, select the three that best correspond to the problems Nagel identified. Choose all the answers that apply. Several answers may be correct, but in some cases only one answer may be correct. Note: Be careful! Choose only those answers you know are correct. You will receive points for each correct selection (up to 4 points so long as you make no incorrect selections. Any incorrect choices will result in zero points for this question. If death is bad because nonexistence deprives you of the goods of life, why do we have different attitudes toward posthumous and prenatal nonexistence? We do not generally think you were suffering before you were born, so why should death be any different? Nagel does not discuss this hypothesis at all. Death is actually good for people because it prevents them from experiencing suffering. The only true evil in the world is suffering, and since dead people cannot suffer, it is always better to be dead. How can death (or anything be bad for someone if they are not around to experience it? This objection depends on Hedonism and/or Mental State Theory being true since death itself cannot be bad for you since you never actually experience being dead. This hypothesis is wrong because death is only bad for a person if they do not want to die. Nagel states that since Desire/Preference theory is true, death is only ever bad because it denies you something you want: more life. There are special difficulties, in the case of death, about how the supposed misfortune is to be assigned to a subject at all. So long as a person exists, she has not yet died, and once she has died, she no longer exists; so there seems to be no time when death, if it is a misfortune, can be said to happen to an unfortunate subject.

What did Plato mean when he said "Death is not the worst thing that can happen to man"? What's worse than death?

The Levite discusses the paradox of life and death, expressing that while they may fear death, they can still appreciate the beauty of life. He recalls times when he felt at peace despite harsh conditions, attributing this to God's plan. Here paradox means contradiction so here contradiction means what in most simple language as per the context
