The alimentary canal in annelids is zoned for increased efficiency and division of labour. The sequence that food follows down the digestive system is as follows: Food passes through the Answer 1 Question 4 and into the Answer 2 Question 4 then down the oesophagus. It can then be stored in the Answer 3 Question 4 and mashed up in the Answer 4 Question 4. Further down into the intestine it is digested further, then excreted through the Answer 5 Question 4.

Food travels through these organs in the following order: Mouth, oesophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine and rectum Mouth; oesophagus; stomach; large intestine, small intestine and rectum Mouth; stomach; oesophagus; small intestine, large intestine and rectum Mouth, stomach; small intestine, large intestine and rectum

General Histological Plan of the Alimentary Canal 1. The general anatomical features of the alimentary canal are listed below. Fill in the table to complete the information. Wall layer | Subdivisions of the layer | Major functions Mucosa | | Submucosa | (Not applicable) | Muscularis externa | | Serosa or adventitia | (Not applicable) | Organs of the Alimentary Canal 2. The tubelike digestive system canal that extends from the mouth to the anus is known as the __________ canal or the __________ tract. 3. How is the muscularis externa of the stomach modified? How does this modification relate to the function of the stomach? 4. What transition in epithelial type exists at the esophagus-stomach junction? How do the epithelia of these two organs relate to their specific functions? 5. Differentiate the colon from the large intestine.

I need to match: - Oesophagus - Crop - Proventriculus (gizzard) - Gastric caecum - Midgut - (Ventriculus/stomach) - Malpighian tubules - Ileum and Colon - Rectum To: - Final storage of waste before excretion. - A food storage area. - A chamber that includes chitin ridges and plates to macerate food. Insects don't have teeth! - Part of the excretory system. They absorb water, solutes, and waste back into the ileum from the haemolymph for excretion. - Resorption of water, creating dry pellets for excretion. - Primary area for food digestion. - A tube that connects the mouth to a food storage area. - Pouches that secrete digestive enzymes into the stomach.
