Mendel's principles and the chromosome theory of inheritance Mendel's principles of inheritance can be explained by the Sutton-Boveri chromosome theory of inheritance because genes are located on chromosomes. Each gene exists in two copies in diploid organisms, and the two alleles of a gene are found on homologous chromosomes, pieces of the same chromosome, and sister chromatids. The following image shows a sperm cell undergoing metaphase I of meiosis. The genotype of the organism is: Examine the alignment of the chromosomes in the precursor sperm cell. After this cell completes meiosis, what allele combinations can be found in the sperm it forms? Check all that apply: If you survey millions of other sperm produced by the same organism, you will notice different allele combinations of these three genes, each at roughly the same frequency.
