The central nervous system is often described as having "plasticity". What does this mean and how does this represent neurogenesis? Only during infancy do new neurons generate and these cells are in a set pattern. Once developed, the brain is stagnant and does not respond well to damage. The brain, regardless of developmental timeline, can be molded as evident by creation of new brain cells in the hippocampus. Only during development can the brain "change".
