Most cells have diameters in the range of 1-20 mm. However, the cells of the amoeba Chaos chaos have diameters of up to 100 mm and the green algae Nitella has cells with diameters of up to 10,000 mm. Briefly describe the evolutionary adaptations that these organisms possess which have allowed them to overcome the cell size range of most organisms.
