The sliding filament theory of muscle contraction is defined as how a muscle can contract and create force without creating movement. ATP is required for relaxation so that the muscles can then contract again. - Takes place in the sarcomere of the muscles. Sarcomere consist of thick and thin filaments that consist of myosin - When Calcium is released it attaches to Troponin on the myosin, ATP is hydrolyzed and inorganic phosphate - Myosin filament extends and attaches to the binding site causing a power stroke - ATP is then required to release the myosin filament to start the process over 5. Discuss the interrelationship between hemoglobin, oxygen, pH and the partial pressure of carbon dioxide. - Hemoglobin is the carrier that binds to oxygen when being transported in the blood throughout the body. When the oxygen is transported to the tissues it is exchanged for carbon dioxide. - The increase of carbon dioxide means a decrease of pH and the decrease of carbon dioxide means an increase of pH. - When the tissue needs more oxygen, hemoglobin has to decrease its affinity and more to the right of the curve Ex. The older your children are the more their need for independence. They need of more independence requires a decrease of holding on 6. Evaluation ......

myosin quickly breaks phosphate bond of ATP free phosphate group released from the ATP binding site of myosin ADP released from the ATP binding site of myosin new ATP molecule binds to open ATP binding site of myosin very low calcium in sarcoplasm, actin and myosin unbound, troponin and tropomyosin in place myosin heads weakly bind actin myosin becomes re-energized and bound with ADP+P, ready to contract again and repeat the cycle

The contraction of voluntary muscles is controlled by the nervous system input. (True/False) Myosin and actin are contractile proteins while troponin and tropomyosin are regulatory proteins. The additive effect of activating more neurons leading to stronger tension/contraction is called wave summation. Your breathing rate remains high for a period just after exercise due to oxygen debt. The gastrocnemius is a muscle in the leg that is anchored to the calcaneus by way of the Achilles tendon. The Achilles tendon is an example of a/an origin direct attachment. The spread of an action potential across the plasma membrane of a stimulated muscle cell refers to the "excitability" feature of muscle tissue while "conductivity" is the ability to respond to stimulation with a change in charge. Myosin and actin are contractile proteins while troponin and tropomyosin are regulatory proteins.
